The Wear Your Whole Closet Challenge

Have you ever had that experience of staring into your closet before you get dressed, scanning the contents as your eyes glaze over, then snapping back to reality only to realize you’re still in your skivvies and your Uber is arriving in 2 minutes? Welcome to being me.

My “aha” moment came when I found myself constantly choosing the exact same outfit because it was a) mostly black, therefore flattering b) comfy and c) still on my bedroom floor from the last time I wore it. I realized I was ignoring 95% of my wardrobe, consistently wearing the same 5 items. I knew I needed a change, so I created the WEAR YOUR WHOLE CLOSET CHALLENGE. The rules? I had to wear everything in my closet (special occasion garments excluded) within 6 months. Anything unworn would be automatically sold or donated.

I blogged and posted every outfit on Instagram, asking followers if I should keep or toss.

The outfit that launched the challenge.

I created this video to explain the challenge, and my reason for doing it.

I told the story of each outfit or piece of clothing on the blog to explain (for all of us!) why I still had it, and—most importantly—determine whether I should USE it or LOSE it.

The end result? I realized fast fashion (think H&M, Zara, even Target!) were a big cause of my closet overflow, which led me to research the overall effect those companies were having on our planet. I was so blown away, I ended up publishing two articles about it!
